Fisher family papers, 1870-1890.

The Fisher Family Correspondence contains sixty letters of a Woodland, California family. The majority of the collection, which spans the years 1870-1890, consists of incoming correspondence to Edna Fisher (1870-1962). Primary correspondents are Ernest Blake, a cousin, and Adella Fisher (1867-1952), Edna's sister. From 1888 to 1889, Adella served as a primary school teacher in Winters, California, during which time she wrote letters to her sister. The correspondence details family matters and the daily activities of the correspondents. Descriptions of life in Yolo County, California are also included.

Circa 1854, Isaac Fisher (1829-1908) settled in Woodland, California and began raising alfalfa on his ranch. On June 14, 1866, he married Mary Cunningham (1847-1871), a native of Ohio. They had two daughters, Adella (1867-1952) and Edna (1870-1962). On March 16, 1878, Isaac Fisher married Anna Rhoads (1854-1928), a native of Madison, Indiana, daughter of John L. and Lovina (Fierce) Rhoads. Isaac and Anna had four children: Oscar S.
